Richard Serra is the name that art world loves and remembers. Everybody who is who in art world (and who can afford to do so) is presenting his gigantic work. The Met just finished “Richard Serra Drawings: A Retrospective”. The same show will be presented by SFMOMA.
Expect a lot of black and a smell of chemical coming from the art…an ultimate high.
In Gagosian gallery, walking through Serra’s labyrinth-like mega work, it reminded me of some tight Utah landscape…The Maze in Arches National Park. Which brings us back to Andy Warhol’s golden words: “Land really is the best art”. Andy, you said it all.
From Gagosian web site:
“I consider space to be a material. The articulation of space has come to take precedence over other concerns. I attempt to use sculptural form to make space distinct.”
– Richard Serra
